Liam Dickinson scored one goal and set up another as Jim Gannons Posh side came from behind to record their first back to back home wins of the season against East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town at London Road.Home bo s Jim Gannon made three changes to the side that lost narrowly away at Middlesbrough at the weekend by dropping Charlie Lee and Aaron McLean to the bench whilst Tommy Williams has joined Championship rivals Preston North End. In their place came Josh Simpson, Craig Mackail-Smith and debutant Liam Dickinson.Ipswich Town bo s Roy Keane made two changes to the side that won at QPR last week with Liam Rosenior filling in at full-back while David Healy returned to partner Murphy up front. Jaime Peters and Pablo Counago dropped to the bench.The away team started Ja'Marr Chase Jersey the brightest with David Healy beating the offside trap on 2 minutes only to be thwarted by the onrushing England U21 goalkeeper Joe Lewis, with the Posh keeper taking a battering from the former Sunderland striker as a result.On 9 minutes however, the Tractor Boys did take the lead as a Grant Leadbitter corner evaded everyone, including Joe Lewis, which left Daryl Murphy with the simple task of nodding the ball into the back of an empty net to score his third goal in three games. The Irish striker positioned himself well making it easier for him to score than to mi s on the goal line.Posh looked shaky and were unable to get a grip in the game and Lewis was called into action again when he saved smartly from a Murphy effort, the rebound was then chipped over the cro sbar as the away side continued to dominate proceedings at London Road.The Posh tried to force their way back into the game but to no avail with Craig Mackail-Smith just inches away from converting a first-rate Tommy Rowe cro s from the left.On the half hour mark, Mackail-Smith should have equalised after Larry Ogunjobi Jersey Simpson did brilliantly to square the ball, only to see the former Dagenham & Redbridge strikers effort cleared off the line from a yard by a well timed block from left back Jack Colback.Jim Gannon showed his ruthle sne s on 35 minutes by withdrawing fans favourite Mackail-Smith who was replaced by Rueben Reid. The Posh faithful were surprised by the timing and the manner of the substitution, but the West Bromwich Albion loanee wasted no time by showing his pace to get in behind Ipswichs defence down the right hand side only to see his cro s gathered by visiting keeper Arran Lee-Barrett at his near post.After a dreadful opening 45 minutes the Posh team were booed off by certain sections of the home crowd, di satisfied with lacklustre defending and the disappearance of creative attacking football they have been used to over the last couple of seasons.The first half was quickly forgotten however, as Peterborough came flying out of the blocks for the second half. Reuben Reid went on a mazy run only to be fouled by Republic of Ireland Mike Thomas Jersey international Damien Delaney. Moments later, Liam Dickinson, who joined the on loan from Brighton on Monday, floated the resulting free kick around the wall and into the bottom corner of the net.The second half was played with an increased tempo making the game become more end to end and Lewis was called into action again, denying Town captain Jon Walters superbly.Peterborough gained the momentum and Simpson saw another shot blocked after new signing Dickinson did brilliantly Jonah Williams Jersey to pick him out before a marvellous pa sing move involving Simpson and Livermore ended with a splendid flick from Dickinson into the path of the onrushing Lee Frecklington who calmly fired past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner of the goal on 63 minutes.Moments later Livermore had two shots blocked but, as the clock ticked down, at the other end Lewiss area was getting bombarded with corners and free kicks as the pre sure intensified, with the 6 foot 6 stopper punching clear a Murphy header before right back Chris Whelpdale saw his deflected left foot effort expertly saved by Lee-Barrett after cutting in from the right hand side.Lee-Barrett was called into action again moments later as Dickinson saw his snap shot deflect off Delaneys head meaning the keeper had to scurry acro s his goal line and get low to push the ball behind for a corner. From the resulting Frecklington corner on 85 minutes, Wales international Craig Morgan sealed the victory by rising well and thumping the ball into the back of the net with his head pa sed the stationary Lee-Barrett from just a couple of yards.Roy Keanes men will be ruing the mi sed chances in the first half but remain out of the relegation zone, albeit only by a point. Another win at London Road has given the Posh faithful a glimmer of hope of survival by cutting the distance to safety from 12 points to 9 points. In order to give themselves a chance, Peterborough need to turn London Road into a fortre s.
